Firstly this bag is massive, and very heavy and bulky. If you have a small house or flat and space is limited i’d avoid it. If not an issue, you can be reassured it’s a strong reinforced sack that doesn’t tear easily. The kibbles are quite large and chunky, about the size of standard gravel. They have a distinct quite unpleasant odour but then this is dog food so it’s to be expected and if it didn’t smell of fish i’d be concerned. Purina claims this is full of vitamins and minerals and as its fish based will aid sensitive skin. My dog is having issues with the heat and coupled with flea season this means his skin and coat gets quite dry and itchy. It’s not going to work miracles but after a few days of feeding him this i did notice a reduction in itching. He is also a bit more energetic and i believe this is down to the extra nutrients. I have found purina food to be very good quality based on past products and this is no exception, and he seems to like the product. The only downside is the price. It’s very expensive and i’m just not totally convinced it’s worth the extra. Yes you get absolutely loads of dog food and if you have several dogs it may be worth it, but personally i’d stick to the smaller cheaper bags offered by purina.
Love this food for my bulldog who is now a. Love this food for my bulldog who is now a junior. It suits her where others just go through his system. Its a good size kibble for a large dog. When i feed it i add raw minced chicken or raw lamb mince. Ive bought this food loads of times and left many reviews on it as well. You can see my dog is a big fan. If you want a food of good value then i suggest you go for this with added meat.
Palitable and has kept our dog away from the vet this summer with his usual itching problems. . Purina pro plan dog large adult athletic with sensitive skin with optiderma rich in salmon dry food 14kgwe have given this to our poodle collie cross who does get very itchy in the summer. There is plenty of good ingredients and omega complexes in here that should help with skin problems. The normal fillers that seem to cause the itching are absent in this food as far as i can see from the ingredients list. Our poodle cross enjoys the food so there has been no problem with him eating it. It does smell a bit fishy but that is to be expected. I think the strong smell is why he likes it so much. The bag lasted around 3 weeks and there was definitely a noticeable reducing in itching and scratching. So on our dog it does what it is supposed to do. #it agrees with our dog and we have seen a noticeable reduction in itching without the use of vet prescribed creams and shampoos that we normally need in the summer. It is expensive but compared to the vets visits and all the associated costs it is much cheaper overall. Here are the specifications for the Purina Pro Plan PURINA PRO PLAN Dog Large Adult Athletic:

Smelly but could be a good longer-term addition to their diet. What’s good:good-sized bag of foodgood consistency of contentspopular with the houndswhat’s not so good:quite priceya bit smelly (as expected)we used this food with two large and getting-on-a-bit white setters. They have never been fussy with food – eating whatever gets within reach whether intended for them or not. They also have traditionally suffered a bit with their skin, always getting sores and constantly trying to tend to themselves. We live in a rural area so there are lots of fields that they probably are a bit sensitive to. As such, this ‘sensitive skin with optiderma’ piqued our interest. We have been using it for the past couple of days, mixed in with their usual mix of foods as we don’t like to go whole-hog on a singular foodstuff as we don’t want them to become fussy. Both dogs were particularly intrigued by this food, probably because it has salmon in it and we don’t tend to buy much fish-based food for them – but so far so good as they are keen on this new mix we are giving them, and their digestive systems are as-yet unaffected. Obviously almost £50 for a sack of food is always going to be a tough pill to swallow, but it goes with the territory and we both agree this food has made a good addition to the mix which we will consider again.
Delicious fish dinners can help with skin problems. My two large (and athletic) five year old show springers munch this up and lick the bowl after. The kibble is chunky, bigger than the bite size nuggets more usually provided, but that just made it all the more fun for them. The aroma is of salmon, fishy, which is fine by us. Sensitive skin can have many causes, flea allergy, other allergy, even genetic predisposition, and so a vet is the best person to diagnose the cause; but one easy one to eliminate is diet, therefore choosing a fish based dry food is a sensible way to go. Shiny coats, bright eyes, an eagerness for exercise, plenty of life, sound sleep when taken, all these factors add up to the ideal for our pets – feeding them top quality purina food certainly seems to appeal and work well.
Reviews from purchasers :
- Decent tasting food (apparently, going by Bella’s reaction), not too bad on the human nose, but these are LARGE!

Great news was that i had no surprises waiting for. Purina pro plan, large athletic dog. Well the proof of the pudding is in the tasting but even before i had opened the bag my dog knew something was happening. The back was a revelation, no scissors or ripping needed here, just gently pull apart the seal and the bag is fully open. Inside the biscuits (predictably large) were moist and had my dog drooling before the bowl was full. It wasn’t full for long either as he worked his way through them with gusto. He’s got a sensitive tummy and we have to be careful what we give him or he gives it back to us during the night. Great news was that i had no surprises waiting for me in the morning. He’s happy as usual and full of beans. Stools solid and no terrible wind.
Our lab staffy cross has had dandruff on and off for years. We used to think it was predominantly caused by stress but we’d also notice it would flair after changes of dry dog food. He’s now getting into his senior years and his joints are playing him up too. As omega 3 and fish oils are a long renowned treatment this seems an ideal product for him. Ok its early days so far in him eating this but the signs are good on many fronts. First things first the change over hasn’t had a noticable affect on his digestion which is always a worry when changing their diets. Secondly the bit of dandruff he had prior to starting on this food now appears to have gonethirdly he seems already to be a little less stiff when getting up after one of his long evening snoozes. None of this is scientific proven obviously but we have a happy satisfied pooch who we think we can see improvements in already so whats not to like?.Oh well maybe except the price of this food.
