Purina ONE Purina One Senior 7 : You only get beef and chicken and the cat went

Purrfect kitty pensioner food. Lets be honest cats are fussy with their food – in fact with everything . My cats have been going through a faze for ages of just demanding food with gravy ( jelly is now considered an insult ) but sucking the gravy out and leaving the meat both my cats are very old and i’m a bit of a sap but its costing me a fortune in food. However these packets are perfect as they are moist, tons of gravy but little pieces of meat ( as there teeth are not great anymore) but even better the packs are such small sizes they tend to eat most of it and i have less waste. Also the packs contain two flavorsso far it’s got a great finished bowl rating from my 16 year old birman which is a rarity. The other thing i like about it is the boxes are lovely and slim and a dream for storing – wish other companies would follow suit. Overall im very pleased , they may seem expensive because my cats only have small appetites it works out well for me and if you have a cat or cats with a smaller appetite then i would recommend.

Purina one senior 7+ wet cat food has now been part of our cats’ diet for five days now and they are loving it. . Purina one senior wet cat food is formulated for older cats, seven years old and above, so our two fussy fourteen year old abyssinians fit the target. Each pack contains five each of chicken with green bean, and beef with carrot in easy open pouches, filled with “mini fillets” of meat in a rich gravy. We have tried many similar products in the past but although our cats are tempted by them, they have tended to lick up all the gravy and then leave the meat. We were therefore delighted that when we fed them the first pouch of beef with carrot they dived in with gusto and presented us with two licked clean dishes. For their next meal we fed them the chicken with green beans which led to similar results. Purina one senior 7+ wet cat food has now been part of our cats’ diet for five days now and they are loving it.

I am sure this is a good product but my cat turned her nose up at it. Most of this went in the bin. Here are the specifications for the Purina ONE Purina One Senior 7:

  • Visible health for today & tomorrow
  • Helps maintain strong natural defences promoted by antioxidants, such as vitamins E
  • Helps maintain a healthy urinary system by helping to reduce the concentration of the minerals which may lead to urinary stones
  • With high quality chicken and beef for protein and great taste
  • 24 vitamins and minerals to help support vital functions

Fussy 11 year old cat, won’t eat whiskas,. Fussy 11 year old cat, won’t eat whiskas, won’t eat felix, won’t eat sheba, will eat purina one senior and iams senior.

Cats like except for vegetables. In general, i trust the purina brand to produce food that is nutritionally appropriate for cats. And my cats do like this, for the most part. But they do leave the vegetable chunks behind, licking the gravy off them. Rather remarkable really, because the vegetable fragments are pretty small, so you’d think they’d hoover one or two up along with the meaty chunks. I do not understand why pet food manufacturers put vegetables in cat food. In the wild, they only ever eat vegetable matter when they want to be sick. Otherwise, they are genuine carnivores, not omnivores like humans or pigs (or even, to a lesser extent, dogs). In general, carbohydrate (which vegetables have more of) is not well tolerated by cats, and repeated consumption increases the risk of diabetes and other illnesses (so my vet told me when one of our cats succumbed to kidney disease). However, this cat food is no different from 95% of cat foods on the market – and looking at the price of cat foods which contain only meat products, the point of vegetables in cat food must be to keep costs down.

My older cat is now twelve and has had utis in the past, so i never give him anything other than a wet food diet. This particular car food looked like it was designed specifically fir himthe cat loved it, purring while eating – a rather charming trick he does when he’s particularly enjoying his food. The cat’s pleasure, coupled with what i read on the box ensures i’ll be buying this again.

Seniors demand the variety of choices available to juniors. My mature felines liked the first exposure to beef and carrots, but were already a little muted when presented with chicken and green beans on the next meal. They have easily bored, appreciative of the unfamiliar, taste buds. I know from experience that i always need a wide variety of flavours on hand, as what is first appreciated will be met with the feline equivalent of raised eyebrows and examining one’s nails, tutting and sighing – walking away from the bowl, or, even more pleasantly, regurgitating the despised proffered fare. I suspect (but was for sure not going to try) that beef-and-carrots might have a similar flavour to chicken-and-green-beans with a similar sauce, so they already thought they were getting more or less what they had at the previous meal. It’s equally possible that chicken-and-green-beans will be a disliked dinner of the day. I think the vegetables may be there to reassure owners, as we all know how important it is for us to get our 5-7. But complete carnivores, which the cat family are, don’t normally crave their sprouts.

  1. Have a very fussy cat that gets bored of food. Will eat jelly and gravy and leave meat. She seems to stick with these the longest and eat it all. Pricier than some but at least it doesn’t get wasted.

Small portions and overpriced. I have three cats and tried this food on them all. They all seemed to like it and ate it all looking for more. I put this down to the fact the pouches are 15g smaller than the food i normally buy for them. I honestly was surprised at the small amounts that came out of the pouches once i managed the scoop it all out that it. It seems to stick fast to the insides of the pouches and i was getting in a mess when serving it up. I think these are overpriced and being as the boxes only contain 8 pouches i would go through boxes n boxes a week it would cost me a small fortune. I put their normal food down and the purina and they didn’t seem to be any preference. I didn’t notice any change in their toilets. I have taken a picture of the purina and their usual food you can see the difference in portion size.

Five stars from a fussy little cat ?. My cat will be 21 this year and he is a right little diva. I’m sure many of you have experienced the scenario of them miaowing because they’ve decided it’s time for dinner, only to turn their nose up in disgust at what you put down for them to eat (which was their favourite last week). Well i don’t have those issues with this food, he adores it.It doesn’t matter how many times i offer this to him, it’s a clean plate every single time. I think i’ll be sticking with this brand from now on.

The elderly lady’s favourite (the cat, not the owner). My 15 year old cat absolutely loved this. With some wet food she will lick the jelly off, and just nibble at the chunks of meat. With this, the whole lot went in the blink of an eye maybe because it tastes good or maybe because the chunks are a slightly more delicate size. I’m no nutritionist, but the ingredients look sound and my cat has seemed to be on good form since eating and as a result i am going to keep buying this. Top marks from my cat means top marks from me.

      1. It looks very tasty — if i wasn’t a vegetarian i’d probably give it a try myself. Aromatic enough to attract the cat from wherever it goes during the day (probably eating the neighbour’s cat’s food) and she eats it and asks for more. Only downside if it doesn’t come out of the pouch easily. I can still feel some lumps in there even after squeezing it like toothpaste. The oldest dog prefers it to his own food.

    1. Good quality “off the shelf” cat food. . Handy sized boxes of eight sachets. A complete food for adult cats over the age of 7 years. Added antioxidants such as vitamin e to help maintain strong natural defences. Added taurine to promote heart health. The box says the food contains high quality beef and chicken however it is important to note that each chicken or beef sachet contains just 5% of these meats the bulk added by vegetable protein extracts plus fish and oil derivatives. This appears to be standard for most “off the shelf” cat foods though. The guide suggests feeding 2-3 sachets a day for cats aged 7-11 yrs. To be honest i have never known my cats to want this much and they benefit from added dry foods and plenty of water. Purina also manufacture a complete cat food which is dried and my cats have this in addition to the sachets.

    1. My two cats are aged nine, so although they may not act it, they are classed as ‘seniors’this purina cat food currently costs just under £20 for 5 boxes of eight sachets – around 50p per sachet, so certainly not the cheapest on the market, however, my cats eat it all up, and that is a bonus. I’m pretty fed up of throwing away food that they’ve turned their noses up at. The pouches are enough to feed one very hungry full sized cat in one sitting, although i usually share one sachet between the two of them, with some dry biscuits on the top for some crunch. The food is very meaty with lots of gravy and so far it has been a success. Purina is a well respected brand, my cats are already fans of the biscuits in the range, and are now quite happily eating this. Dropped one star as it is a little pricey.

Handy packs and my cat licks the bowl clean. A pack of handy small-size box of 85g pouches. Better for a small, fussy cat that doesn’t eat that much i guess. I have one of those, and she seems to really like both flavours in this pack. I’ve had nothing but shiny, empty bowls since starting her on it, and that’s pretty unusual for her. Of course she may well go off it next week, but that’s cats for you. No ill effects after several days on this new food either. Sometimes a new food can make a cat vomit, or you know what. The food doesn’t look much different to regular food, though it’s a bit less chunky. Better for elderly teeth perhaps, but that’s not problem for my little mouser.

    1. Great nibbles – but i’ve two small quibbles. My two beautiful black cats are currently served between 2-3 sachets of whiskas a day, plus as much one by purina (dry food) as they wish. However, if i try to give them whiskas in gravy pouches they reject them utterly. Nice to see, therefore that they will both devour these one by purina sachets in gravy. Nutritionally balanced, these meals do the trick, and my babies find them delicious too. However, i have two negative points to read:i) pouches are not the ideal medium in which to present such ‘sticky’ food: it involves too much fiddling around to get it all out and into the bowl. Foil trays would be much better. Ii) 100g servings would be preferable to these 85g sachets. Other than that, this is great food that gives your puss the best possible chance of remaining healthy and happy for many years.

All three of our cats absolutely loved it. I’ve never seen them so keen at feeding time. The pouches were easy to open, although the contents did require a bit of cajoling to get it all out.

    1. We’ve an elderly ragdoll who isn’t a fussy eater beyond he now doesn’t eat as much dry kibble (unless we soak it first) as he only has teeth on one side of his mouth so can’t chew very well. As our other cats will generally eat wet food ahead of dry and are all under 7, we’ve been feeding the grey wonder separately from the nfc gannets in the spare room where he spends most of his days in the sun on the window ledge, normally he holds his own, but has been getting cranky lately so it gives him peace and quiet and time to eat. He’s been eating four packets a day and it’s all getting eaten and isn’t causing him any digestive issues that we’re aware of yet. Because he’s getting his fill he’s actually also staying away from the others food which is better for him as senior food is specifically formulated for older cats. We’ve a couple of pointy spatula’s we use on foil packet food as it never comes out like it does on tv adverts and usually requires a bit of help to make sure you get the lot out. Like everyone else buying pet food i have to trust trust purina’s claims with regard to how balanced this is for senior cats and why it works specifically for them; they’ve done the research, i haven’t. We’ve rotated between the two flavours each day. We have noticed that the beef tends to get eaten in one sitting whereas the chicken tends to be returned to after the initial dip in the bowl. The grey wonder tends to get bored with food if there isn’t a choice so we’ve been substituting moistened dry kibble to give him a bit of variety as with only two flavours in the pack he could get bored really quick and if he does he tends not to go back to the food for a while, so far we’ve not had this with him so fingers crossed we’ve hit the right balance.

    1. My cat absolutely loves this food. It is sliced very thinly and looks very meaty. You can also see bits that look like vegetables in it. I just wish the sachets had a bit more food in each one.
