Iams Dry Cat Food Kittenand Junior Chicken 2 : Gobbled up in seconds

I have three small kittens around 4-5 weeks old. Until a few days ago, they got their nourishment from their mother, supplemented by royal kanin reconstituted kitten milk which i hand fed them and have the scratches to prove it. Deciding it was time to start weaning them, i put down some moist kitten food and some dry food -the iams i’m reviewing. So far they’ve ignored the moist sachet food but attacked the iams dried. Moments after putting down a bowlful this morning all three had surrounded it and were tucking in. The only reason i’m giving four stars is the price. On quality and appeal it would have to be five.

As a treat or for health reasons then this is great, for the price i don’t think i would use this as an ‘all the time’ food. It is very good though and i would recommend it.

. But they don’t like most other dry food. Admittedly, iams is a lot mor expensive than the normal dry stuff, but mixed in with wet food makes it go a lot further and gives them some variety. You just have to figure out if your cats are going to be able to tell the difference, they might not be as picky as mine.

Desire my grownup cats liked iams as much. I have attempted our older cats on iams without having significantly success. They have been lifted on damp food pouches and it proved complicated to get them to go for the dry things. I assumed i may get on much better with our little cat who is just not old plenty of to have become addicted to moist food and it seems to be working ok so far. Only challenge is, mainly because our older cats are nonetheless on meat it truly is very tempting for their small good friend to assist them very clear their plates. I only would like it would do the job the other way round and she’d instruct them that dry food is the way to go. I am possessing to try feeding them independently at the instant so that she doesn’t get into the behavior of liking the damp food but i you should not know how thriving that would be in the extended operate. If i only had our little cat it would not be a difficulty as she likes the iams perfectly enough and i consider she’d be quite pleased to adhere with it but i suspect that as before long as she’s a small more mature and starts feeding with the major boys the smelly soaked food will gain out. It’s good stuff and i will check out to keep her at it but if she’s lead astray to the meat it is not going to be the fault of the iams.

I’ve recently acquired two kittens who have just finished their first 2. 55kg packet of iams dry cat food. I got them when they were eight weeks old and gave them iams from the start, with the first packet lasting three weeks and 1 day. I’ve been feeding them nothing but this and water and they are growing, have lots (and lots) of energy, and no problems with their digestion (i know some cat owners who find iams too rich). The food comes in the form of small biscuits and is chicken flavour (yum). An added bonus is that the piece of plastic that i cut off when opening the packet provides infinite entertainment; by far and away it is the kittens’ favourite toy (the box the packets were delivered in comes a close second). My only complaint is that i would have liked the packet to be resealable in some way.

Reviews from purchasers :

  • Wish my adult cats loved Iams as much
  • Both kitten and junior like it
  • So far the one my kitty likes best

As a cat breeder i cannot recommend this excellent food enough. Not only is it lovely little kibbles for baby mouths, but is an excellent addition to the diet of pregnant and nursing mothers. I also feed it to my girls to build them up after their babies are past nursing and in addition i feed it to the studs as i felt that ‘doing what comes naturally’ to them takes an awful lot out of them. Overall i found that the cats preferred kitten iams to any other brand of dry cat food. Just a pity that the size of bags is restricted and is not available in the larger sizes available in adult varieties.

I’ve got two kittens (now 12 weeks old) one boy and one girl; both of them are loving this product. We’ve used a cheap supermarket alternative (aldi) and pro plan cat food, each greeted with disdain and unhappiness. This product is getting enjoyed by both of them. The feeding guide is clear and the product doesn’t have an overwhelming smell. Highly successful and i’m a converted owner.

When you looks at iams invariably you will compare it against £3 for 12 pouches of normal wet cat food. On the face of it that makes iams look expensive but in reality the per portion cost of this is actually much much cheaper. My four cats love it, i sometimes put some gravy on to surprise them but generally you can tell when a cat likes nice food and their coats are looking great.

    1. It isn’t their favourite but they will eat it if i refuse to give in to their blandishments and give them wet food or temptations. Would be interesting to see just how much it really is adapted to kittens and younger cats.

    1. Wish my adult cats loved iams as much. I’ve tried our older cats on iams without much success. They’ve been raised on wet food pouches and it proved difficult to get them to go for the dry stuff. I thought i might get on better with our little cat who isn’t old enough to have become addicted to wet food and it seems to be working ok so far. Only problem is, because our older cats are still on meat it’s very tempting for their little friend to help them clear their plates. I only wish it would work the other way round and she’d teach them that dry food is the way to go. I’m having to try feeding them separately at the moment so that she doesn’t get into the habit of liking the wet food but i don’t know how successful that would be in the long run. If i only had our little cat it wouldn’t be a problem as she likes the iams well enough and i think she’d be quite happy to stick with it but i suspect that as soon as she’s a little older and starts feeding with the big boys the smelly wet food will win out. It’s great stuff and i’ll try to keep her at it but if she’s lead astray to the meat it won’t be the fault of the iams.

Enjoyed by kitten and seems to be good for her. We adopted a very scrawny kitten recently and, despite being wormed, she still seemed to be struggling to put on weight and her coat was rough and not at all sleek. We had the opportunity to try this dry food for her and, over the course of a few weeks, her coat has gradually improved until it is now shiny and looks in good condition and she has at last also put on some weight. Although these biscuits seem expensive at first glance, they really do last a long time and i feel that they’re good value compared to wet food. I also like the fact that i can leave the biscuits out so that she can pick at them throughout the day and, of course, they don’t attract flies unlike leftover wet food. She seems to really enjoy the taste of these biscuits and they’re a good size even for a small kitten.

    1. Another success, this time for younger cats. With smaller pieces than other iams offerings, this one is aimed at younger cats (up to 12 months old). We have rescue cats – one about a year old, and one nearer to 8 years old, and the truth is both of them love this as well as all the other iams flavours. We are trying to ensure only the younger cat has this one, but that’s only because it’s aimed at his age group. We feed both cats dry iams topped up through the day, and one wet sachet a day.

  7. What more to say about cat food?. I prefer dry cat food to wet as i can then see my cat drinking more and it keeps longer. The iams is abrand my cat constantly eats unlike some cheaper brands – lidls & tescos own. Although she like whiskers she doesn’t like gocat & she loves purina. I deally i’d like her to eat a raw diet like the dogs, but she can be fussy and rules my house.

My son`s kitten has always been very skinny despite being wormed ect so i suggested that he tried this food. It really does work, she has put on weight and looks much happier and healthier, even more important she loves it.

      1. Not much to say – a great product in a useful size so that you don’t have to lug cat food continually.

    1. A tricky product to review as i have no intentions of personally trying this (no matter how nice it smells) but suffice to say my cats enjoy this immensely so i confidently recommend this. A way better deal than the supermarkets, where i had been buying 800 gram packs for around 7 quid a time. Also a good idea to have three small bags rather than one massive one as it saves the problem of the food drying out in next to no time.

  10. Fantastic quality kitten food. This is wonderful kitten food – low odour, small kibble, high nutrition. My new wee boy simply devours it, and runs when he hears the rattle of food hitting the bowl. It needs to be served alongside water or milk though, as it can make him a little thirsty. He is growing weekly, bright eyes and coat, and great fun. This food is value for money as a bag lasts a long time. The only problem we have is keeping the older cats away.

I have four pets, two cats and two dogs so generally buy more generic pet food with a more palatable price tag, but have been keen to try the more upmarket feeds to see if a) the cats don’t need to eat as much and b) to see if it makes my arthritic and lethargic cat feel any better. There is no doubt about it, they like the taste of the food, but they do still look longingly at the bowl when they have finished the smaller portions that the high end foods suggest – i can not tell if it is genuine hunger or just greed. That said, my arthritic cat does seem to be a little less sluggish. Despite this food being aimed at younger cats. . Again though that may be because of the warm summer as opposed to the better food. My young bengal cat certainly likes this food and meows constantly for more. I think this food smells and looks nicer than our usual brand, but i am not convinced that it will persuade me to spend more money for it – the test will come when i offer them some of their old food and see if they are as enthusiastic.

    1. Only a couple of months ago, the redhart family adopted a cat named “mer-cat-or” (after geradus mercator, the 16th century flemish “cat-ographer”) from my aunt “cat-riona”, of “cat-ford”. Although formerly both a “cat-walk” model and a backing singer for “yusuf islam”, recently the old dear had been a mere shadow of her former self- plagued by “cat-aracts” and the most awful “cat-arrh”. A “cat scan” also revealed major neural degeneration, which has probably not been helped by her addiction to mephedrone (also known as “m-cat”). However, suddenly an even greater “cat-astrophe” struck, when she recently managed to “cat-ch” aids. This has left her bedridden in a “cat-atonic” state (requiring a “cat-heter”), and with nobody to look after her cat. A few years back her husband (my uncle “cat-o”) had chosen to “whisk ‘er” away to spain on a “cat-amaran”, on a mission to “cat-alogue” rare breeds of “cat-erpillar”. Whilst there, they visited the “cat-acombs” of st “cat-herine’s” (a “cat-holic” “cat-hedral” in “cat-alonia”), where she found the very stray animal that she was to bring home- and which has since been “cat-apulted” into membership of “me ‘ousehold”. Anyway, this particular product (from singer will. Am’s popular range) is chicken flavour, featuring absolutely no beef obtained from “cat-tle”. I’d recommend “s-cat-tering” it amongst your pet’s tinned food, in order to fully “cat-er” for their dietary needs. Apparently this particular blend is an excellent “cat-alyst” for growth among young kittens, but the important thing is that my “cat” (edit oh, hang on. That one wasn’t technically a pun) seems to like the taste. There’s been absolutely no “cat-erwauling” at meal times and it’s actually rather “cat-hartic” to watch the grub getting swallowed so enthusiastically.

Its always difficult writing a review for cat food. We cant taste test it, and sadly, i dont speak cat. 🙂 i usually rely on 2 main indicators: 1) does my cat like it?.2) is my cat healthy, energetic and looking good?in answer to the above, the kittens loved it. This was the perfect size for tiny mouths and it was gobbled up in seconds. All the litter are active and happy and mewing happily at mealtimes, so i guess thats a 10 out of 10. I feel confident in the iams brand that i am giving my cats a high quality kibble. Will definitely continue with this brand and flavour. Cant really go wrong with chicken.

I don’t own a cat but have a neighbours cat who seems to be adopting me. I have been leaving these biscuits out for her and she loves them. Oh, and in case anyone thinks i am luring her away from home, my neighbour doesn’t mind me feeding her cat at all. I also gave some to my dog and he enjoyed them too – although this may have been just to stop the cat from having any more. He does get jealous, silly thing.

Iams kitten food is designed to provide everything nutritionally that a growing kitten needs for development of bone, muscle and immune system as well as healthy eyes, skin and coat. Although it is a ‘complete’ food (i. It is claimed there is no need to feed anything else to provide a balanced diet) we always prefer to offer a couple of wet food choices for variety. This formulation is described as suitable for feeding from four weeks up to one year when gradual weaning onto adult food is recommended. If, like us, you have mixed ages it is in practice impossible to prevent the older generation in this household from sticking their noses in for a quick munch from time to time. However, this does no harm any more than the youngsters eating adult food and we view that it is access to food formulated for age that is the key issue. It is very difficult to assess whether the iams formulation is superior to other kitten food (short of having a ‘control kitten’ fed an alternative diet) but cats tend to vote with their tummies. Ours consistently find the various iams mixes palatable even when they are blowing going hot and cold over wet food.

      1. Have put this down alongside normal branded cat food and the 2 kittens don’t even look at the other stuff, they go off theirs tits for this cat food. Never a single morsel left and two very happy kittens. However i find it to be quite dry and bland with a poor after taste.

My very fussy 18 year old tabby can’t get enough of these. I thought this sizeable bag would last her a good long while but it’s not even been a week and she’s chowing through it like her nine lives depend upon it. Great value, great product, i’m definitely ordering more – my two dogs love them too but for the cat’s sake i’m keeping most of the bag for her.
